Nickel, nine, lives with Thomas until a school trip lets him bring home the piglet Rudy then discovers Thomas has new girlfriend and her daughter Felicitas. Nickel bargains: if they stay, Rudy can stay; he and Rudy flee to ‘Porkland’, chased by Felicitas and crooks. The chase ends in the Oder Valley swamps, where Rudy saves children and finds a home.
