Each year the Young Comedians Special highlights the most promising emerging comic performers, presenting fresh material in a televised showcase. A different established comedian serves as host, introducing the acts and delivering a set of their own. In 1984, the ninth edition was anchored by the legendary Rodney Dangerfield, whose signature self‑deprecating humor opened the program.
