Robotech: The Movie

In the year 1999, the alien warship SDF-1 crashes on Earth, drastically altering humanity's plans for space. The wreckage becomes a focal point for human governments and military factions seeking to harness its advanced tech. The event foreshadows later alliances and threats tied to the ship and its computer.

Ten years after the crash, Zentraedi forces descend to reclaim the SDF-1 for their rulers, the Robotech Masters. The ensuing conflict erupts into the First Robotech War as Earth’s defenders rally to stop the invasion. Although humanity ultimately wins, the SDF-1 is lost in the process.

In 2027, the Robotech Masters themselves arrive in Earth's Solar System with the aim of recovering the still functional mother computer housed at the Robotech Research Center in Japan. Their presence marks a renewed existential threat to Earth and sets into motion a new clash of tech and strategy. Their plans center on controlling the computer’s power to influence events on the planet.

The Masters launch a covert strike on a small human settlement and kill Colonel B.D. Andrews of the Army of the Southern Cross. They secretly replace him with a clone loyal to their agenda. This treachery seeds a dangerous power shift that undermines Earth's defenses.

The Andrews clone proposes that the ASC take charge of the mother computer to coordinate a defense against the Masters. He covertly beams portions of the computer's database to the Masters, strengthening their position. His actions push Earth toward a desperate, high-stakes confrontation.

Soldier Todd Harris steals the MODAT 5, a mobile terminal linked to the mother computer, and seeks help from his friend Mark Landry while trying to contact Eve. Andrews's forces chase him and, during an escape attempt, Todd dies before he can reveal the full plot. His theft initiates a chain of events that will soon force Mark to confront a hidden threat.

Mark escapes with the MODAT 5 but does not yet understand its significance, using it as a prop in an amateur movie being filmed by Becky Michaels and Kelly. The misdirection delays the moment when the others grasp the true importance of the device. The situation remains dangerous as the Masters tighten their grip on Earth.

Seeing a music video from the idol Eve, Mark assumes she is the contact Todd mentioned. He calls Eve on air and triggers a freeway chase when Andrews's men close in. The MODAT reconfigures into a humanoid mecha to defend him, revealing that Eve is not a person but the SDF-1's shipboard computer acting as an artificial intelligence.

Mark infiltrates the TV studio and discovers that Eve is the AI guiding him against the Masters. Eve explains the Masters' plan and leads Mark to the Robotech Research Center to join the defense effort. This revelation shifts Mark from bystander to active participant in Earth’s resistance.

Inside the Robotech Research Center, Mark engages and defeats the Andrews clone in a mecha battle, inadvertently disclosing the MODAT footage to Andrews's enemies. The clash delays the Masters' advance but does not end the threat. The victory buys time for Becky's and Eve's efforts to expose the conspiracy.

A technician reports Andrews's suspicious actions to Professor Embry, head of the Ministry of Computer Sciences. Embry orders the computer shut down to stop a full data breach, but Andrews mounts a coup, seizes control of the government, and reactivates the computer to resume transmission. The political and technological turmoil escalates toward a planetary crisis.

During the coup, Kelly is killed by Andrews's men and her film footage of the MODAT is stolen. The loss of the evidence heightens Becky's and Mark's efforts to expose the conspiracy. The Masters' influence seems to tighten around Earth's defenses as a result.

The Masters' flagship descends to Earth and delivers an ultimatum to the ASC. By exploiting a link between the computer and their vessel, they reveal a potential weakness in their own defenses. The ASC exploits this vulnerability and cripples the flagship, forcing the Masters to retreat with their fleet damaged.

As chaos spreads, Mark attacks the research center to flush out Andrews but is defeated and left for dead. Eve directs him to commandeer a prototype space fighter that can reach Embry and Stacy in time. This guidance shifts the battle from ground to space, setting up the final confrontation.

Mark pilots the space fighter, transforming it into robot mode, and races to the airport to confront Andrews. In a climactic duel, he slays the Andrews clone and, at last, reunites with Becky after a long, perilous struggle. The victory marks a turning point in Earth’s ongoing resistance against the Masters.
