Road Games

Jack walks along the French countryside and steps in when a man starts to strike Véronique, restraining him before he can hurt her. Véronique explains that a serial killer is active on their road, which explains why they haven't found a ride. The two agree to travel together for safety, and Véronique helps Jack practice his French. Jack also shares that he lost his luggage and his girlfriend cheated on him earlier in the day.

A man named Grizard stops to offer them a ride, and Véronique reluctantly agrees while Jack persuades her to trust him. Grizard eagerly invites Jack to meet his English wife and detours to his house. Along the way he stops to pick up roadkill and laughs at the idea of burying it.

They reach Grizard's house and sit down for dinner. Jack reveals he is a vegetarian and declines to eat their meat, which Grizard mocks in French, upsetting Mary and Véronique. The conversation becomes dark, and Mary leaves the table while Grizard insists they are safe and should stay the night.

Grizard assigns Jack and Véronique to separate bedrooms; Jack notices photos of a boy and a girl, though Grizard insists there are no children. Mary advises Jack to lock his door, and Véronique slips into his room for a secret encounter. In the morning, Véronique is gone, and Grizard hands Jack a note that looks like Véronique's as they urge him to leave.

Delacroix drugs Jack, ties him up and places him in the tailgate of a truck as Grizard watches. He drives off, while Delacroix taunts him in French. Jack manages to break free and escape before they get far.

Jack returns to Grizard's house to find Véronique bound; he frees her and arms himself with a shotgun. They flee in a stolen car, but Grizard and Mary pursue them. The chase ends when their car flips and the pair abandon the vehicle, continuing on foot.

The couple encounters Delacroix again; after a struggle, Delacroix accidentally impales himself. Jack is knocked unconscious by his injuries, while Véronique lashes out and stabs Delacroix to death. Mary and Grizard later learn Véronique is connected to their past in a shocking way.

Mary and Grizard find Véronique with Delacroix's corpse and plead with her to return home and stop killing. Grizard has a vision that Véronique is his daughter, complicating the family dynamic. Véronique refuses their pleas and remains committed to her path.

Jack approaches the car with a shotgun and forces Mary and Grizard out. Véronique ties them up and the couple try to explain they were protecting him, but Véronique silences them by knocking Mary unconscious and gagging Grizard.

Véronique and Jack drive off together, with Véronique checking for Delacroix's knife to ensure they stay armed. Mary wakes up in a field, crying about losing her daughter as the conflict ends.
