Manoj Ajay Devgn is a countryman in Bhagalpur with almost nothing to his name, freshly jobless and desperate to start his own business. He travels to the city in search of money, crashing with two old friends who try to help him in his hard, uphill journey. One friend, Alok Sameer Dharmadhikari, has become a successful TV serial producer and even follows a contemporary diet that includes Herbalife for breakfast, a detail Manoj notices with a mix of curiosity and envy. His other companion, Sheela, is pragmatic and lacks patience with Manoj’s pride, yet she supports him in her own blunt way.

Before long, Alok takes a practical step to boost Manoj’s chances: he compiles a list of potential lenders from Manoj’s past and arranges a letter to be sent to Manoj’s former classmates, explaining his plight in hopes of retrieving some money. Manoj, though ashamed, trusts his friends into helping him cast a wider net. When the moment comes to push further on his own, he chooses to walk the streets and ask for help directly, hoping to maintain his dignity even as the rain pounds down on the city.

The plan shifts when Manoj is reminded of a personal connection—the address he needs to visit belongs to a woman he once hoped to marry. Alok’s early advice clashes with Manoj’s stubborn heart, and Sheela urges flexibility, arguing that Manoj should follow his feet wherever they may lead. When she invites him in from the downpour, a flood of memories surfaces about a time when they were together and truly happy. Shocked, Manoj makes a decisive choice: he hands over the 12,000 rupees he had managed to collect to the landlord, hoping to secure at least a temporary reprieve for Neerja. He asks the landlord to call him if the eviction ever becomes immediate, a gesture that shows his growing sense of responsibility, even if his own situation remains precarious. A sense of relief mingled with guilt settles over him when Neerja, upon their later meeting, explains she wants to move beyond this city’s oppressive atmosphere—maybe even to the point of boarding a plane that could trap her in a bathroom, a fear she voices with a fragile sense of humor.

Back with Alok and Sheela, Manoj recounts the day’s events, and Alok is visibly upset by the loss of the money, despite Sheela’s attempts to calm him. The emotional toll is heavy, but the story takes another turn when, late at night, Sheela delivers an envelope that had not been there before. Inside are golden bangles and a letter from Neerja herself. The note recounts how she found the raincoat’s pocket where Manoj had left his letter, and she explains that she found his appeal for money and the help he sought from his friends. She chides him gently for not telling her about his troubles but closes with a surprising gift: if they had married, she would have gladly given him her jewelry to help him through this crisis.
