The tale follows a young prince, orphaned after his parents’ death, who sets out into the world. During his journeys he befriends a magical talking horse and falls for the beautiful Princess Slavna. Acting on the horse’s counsel, he blinds one eye, pretends to be mute, and resourcefully takes a job as the castle’s gardener.
