Ravi grows up in a busy household with Govardhan Rao and Girija, who are often away due to business. He longs for affection and finds it in Sharadamma, the maid who becomes a surrogate family member. This early longing for love colors his choices later in life.

Ravi first notices Shashikala at the market and then encounters her again at college as a fresh student. Their interactions are brief but leave Ravi hopeful. Shashikala remains guarded while curiosity flickers.

For the college's diamond jubilee, the director wants a grand ceremony to attract donations. The principal rejects a small pooja and assigns Prof. Manohar to coordinate the spectacle with the students. The mood on campus is excited but tense as the plan takes shape.

A motorcycle gang tries to derail the preparations, threatening to ruin the event. The students and staff fend them off, keeping the show on track. The threat foreshadows bigger conflicts to come.

During the chaos, Shashikala hides from the gang and ends up running into Ravi. The accidental reunion sparks a new tension between them. Ravi's interest begins to shift from Shashikala's image to the dangerous mystery around her.

The gang harasses the students again, and the situation looks grim until a mysterious biker arrives and beats back the attackers. He helps Shashikala by giving her his jacket, creating an aura of intrigue. Shashikala fantasizes about the biker while still acknowledging Ravi.

Shashikala grows drawn to the biker and starts to fantasize about a life with him, while Ravi remains in her view as the steady admirer she resists. She continues to reject Ravi's advances, hoping the biker will show up again. The unresolved tension deepens the love triangle.

On the night of the musical performance, the biker once more saves the celebration and Shashikala regains consciousness. The biker then reveals himself to be Ravi, shocking both of them. Though hesitant, Shashikala accepts the possibility of loving Ravi, letting go of the biker fantasy.

Ravi's parents arrange his marriage to Rajini, the CM's daughter, to gain prestige. Rajini, aided by the principal and Inspector Srinath, tries to locate Ravi to press the alliance. Shashikala learns of the arranged marriage from the principal and becomes distraught.

Ravi returns home to be scolded by his parents for his behavior, including damage to his room in a fit of rage. Shashikala is harshly admonished by her own parents for loving Ravi. The lovers confront the social and familial pressures that stand between them.

Ravi goes to Shashikala's house and loudly voices his grievances, smashing a few objects in the process. Shashikala realizes his sincerity and their feelings intensify, leading them to reunite. They decide to run away together the next morning.

Shashikala's father accuses Ravi of kidnapping, triggering a police pursuit. The couple swaps places with another couple in a wedding procession to evade capture, but the ruse is risky. The principal, Manohar, and the parents step in to force a resolution.

Ravi and Shashikala manage to convince their families, the principal, and Prof. Manohar, and finally marry. They leave for a countryside honeymoon, signaling a hopeful new beginning. The film closes on their united future away from the constraints that kept them apart.
