Fueled by biblical prophecy, a significant group of American fundamentalist Christians actively work to hasten the apocalypse. Believing they will be saved when Jesus appears in Israel on horseback, wielding a sword, they support the strengthening of the state, influencing US foreign policy and providing substantial financial backing. Natural disasters, global crises, and wars are seen as signs that the end times are approaching, and that the prophecies are about to be fulfilled.
