Ponyo

Fujimoto, a wizard who was once human, resides beneath the sea with his daughter, Brunhilde, and her smaller sisters. Together, they lead a tranquil life amidst the enchanting goldfish-like creatures inhabiting their underwater world.

During an outing in his unique four-flippered submarine, Brunhilde decides to explore on her own. She sneaks away and unexpectedly floats off on a jellyfish, setting the stage for a series of unforeseen events.

In her seafaring adventure, Brunhilde encounters a fishing trawler, leading to a perilous situation. She ends up trapped in a glass jar, which ultimately washes ashore in a quaint fishing village.

In the fishing village, a five-year-old boy named Sōsuke discovers the stranded Brunhilde. After rescuing her from the glass jar, Sōsuke accidentally injures himself, but Brunhilde licks his wound and miraculously heals it.

Sōsuke names the rescued creature Ponyo, after which he promises to protect her. At the same time, Brunhilde's father, Fujimoto, searches the ocean frantically, fearing he has lost his beloved daughter forever.

Ponyo, determined to claim her new identity, rejects her father’s name for her and wishes to be known as Ponyo. By licking Sōsuke's blood, she begins to unleash her magical powers and changes her form.

In a defiant act of independence, Ponyo escapes her father’s grasp with the help of her sisters, unwittingly summoning powerful magic that leads to a catastrophic tsunami. The ocean disruptions signal a change in the natural order.

Sōsuke's mother, Lisa, returns home and offers a warm welcome to Ponyo. However, as chaos erupts around them, Lisa insists on checking on her nursing home residents, intending to return quickly after.

Gran Mamare, Ponyo's mother and the Goddess of Mercy, makes her appearance at Fujimoto's submarine. She witnesses the upheaval in nature and reassures Fujimoto while preparing to test Sōsuke’s love for Ponyo.

Gran Mamare presents Sōsuke with a test that he must pass to ensure Ponyo can remain human and restore balance to nature. She warns that failing the test would risk Ponyo turning into sea foam forever.

The following day, Sōsuke and Ponyo embark on a journey to find Lisa, using Ponyo's magic to enlarge Sōsuke’s boat as they navigate through the flooded land. They encounter various fascinating marine life along the way.

As the adventure progresses, Ponyo becomes exhausted and falls asleep, causing their magical boat to shrink back to its original size. Sōsuke manages to drag Ponyo ashore just as they stumble upon Lisa's abandoned car.

A tense encounter occurs when Sōsuke and Ponyo face Fujimoto, who warns them of the dangers posed by the imbalance in nature. He begs Sōsuke to return Ponyo to him, but Sōsuke remains resolute in protecting her.

In a heartfelt conversation, Gran Mamare asks Sōsuke if he can love Ponyo in both her fish form and as a human. Sōsuke expresses his unwavering love, answering affirmatively to her crucial question.

To finalize Ponyo's transformation into a human, Gran Mamare instructs Sōsuke to kiss the magic bubble containing Ponyo. With this act, harmony is restored to nature, and Ponyo joyfully embraces her new life with Sōsuke.
