An English narrator addresses the Pink Panther as he reads a secret‑agent novel and encourages him to become a spy. Inspired, the Panther dons a trench coat, hat and pipe, strolling the city in search of foes. He discovers a foreign‑agent gang planning to detonate black‑ball bombs; they fire at him, trap him in a crocodile pit, and later aboard a night train swap his cigarette for a bomb.
