After serving a prison sentence for killing a white gangster, African‑American jazz pianist Eddie Warmack is released to discover the music industry is ruled by mob‑controlled clubs and recording studios. Unwilling to compromise his art, he sets out to locate his mentor and grandfather, the legendary jazz figure Poppa Harris, in hopes of reclaiming his musical freedom.
