In 1977 Spain, the first democratic elections loom after decades of dictatorship, and Madrid buzzes with a hopeful progressive atmosphere. Former spouses Carmen and Juan, now living apart but sharing a child, maintain a polite relationship. Their personal split, the turbulent political climate and the contradictions of the era’s left‑wing idealism cannot extinguish the lingering bond between them.
