After receiving amnesty, Juan leaves a Lima prison and rides a bus home, recalling his childhood in a remote village near Huaraz. His father is dead, and his mother lives with Fermin, a secret sympathizer of Communist guerrillas. Night assassinations strike the town; when Juan uncovers Fermin’s ties, the guerrillas take him in, teaching Marxist slogans and combat. As they plan a retaliatory raid, Juan must decide where his loyalties lie.
