Director Kramer immerses the viewer in the production of Thomas Harlan’s 1984 experimental feature Wundkanal, where elderly former SS officer Alfred Filbert is placed on camera for a trial he does not understand. The film becomes an essay on the tangled complicity of everyone present—each with personal histories, political beliefs, motives of revenge, redemption, professional duty, or, for Filbert, a wish to become a cinematic star even at the cost of his own destruction.
