Momoko Adachi, now 27, still lives with the weight of her parents’ death, which occurred while she was a third‑year high‑school student. She abandoned her college plans and has spent the last nine years working at a home centre, shouldering the responsibilities of her three younger brothers—now 20, 17 and 14. As Christmas approaches, Momoko wonders whether she can finally begin a new, ordinary daily routine.
