A routine voyage aboard a luxury ocean liner takes a disastrous turn, leaving a handful of survivors stranded on the shores of a remote desert island. Far from the structured world they left behind, this unexpected community finds itself grappling with an entirely new set of rules. The vast emptiness of the ocean stretches in every direction, a constant reminder of their isolation, while the island itself offers both refuge and challenge in equal measure. At the center of this uneasy group is Sadie Patch, a spoiled heiress accustomed to a life of leisure, who suddenly finds herself without the comforts of high society. She is joined by three men who represent vastly different walks of life: Pat Plunkett, a gruff and practical Irish stoker used to the engine room’s grit; Jimmy Carrol, a prickly young journalist with a sharp tongue; and Professor Gibble, a bald, bookish academic whose theories are about to be tested by harsh reality. The collision of these disparate backgrounds creates an immediate friction, as the hierarchies of the world they knew dissolve into a leveling equality that none of them quite knows how to navigate.
