Chanthu, a poor orphan, and his cousin Aromal belong to the Chekavar, a warrior clan that offers duels to settle the disputes of the rich. Jealous of Chanthu’s greater talent, Aromal makes his life miserable, prompting Chanthu to seek refuge with Aringodar, a rival Chekavan, and become his pupil. When the two sons of a local landlord hire Aromal and Aringodar to duel over a property conflict, Chanthu must choose between the family that raised him and the man who gave him sanctuary, testing his loyalty and honor.
