Set in a Slovenian village under Italian occupation, Stefuc, a twice‑widowed father of four, seeks a third marriage to Zana, who is engaged and pregnant with Ludvik. His attempt to separate them backfires, so he marries Hedvika, newly back from Milan. Meanwhile, Italian fascist officials and local collaborators aim to eradicate five Slovenian songs.
