Set in Dubrovnik, the drama follows three friends formed just before World II: an Italian, a wealthy shipping heir, and the son of a Jewish antique‑shop owner. Their bond thrives at carnivals and a fencing club, but the Nazi‑Italian occupation and the Independent State of Croatia shatter it. The Italian turns fascist, marries his friend’s sister, and as atrocities rise, anyone suspected of Jewish, Serbian or dissenting ties is killed.
