Captain Kabir Kaul, a young Indian Army officer, retires prematurely due to the haunting memory of his failure to save a boy from a landmine. This traumatic experience weighs heavily on him, contributing to his decision to leave the army early.

Kabir is summoned by his uncle Hameed to Srinagar, where he discovers his father's school has been taken over by the government. The school struggles to find qualified teachers, prompting Hameed to ask Kabir to join as a teacher.

Deciding to take up the challenge, Kabir joins the Wular Public School, located in a remote part of the Kashmir Valley. The school, situated on an island, is accessible only by boat, emphasizing its isolation.

While settling into his role, Kabir discovers a diary left by the previous teacher, Firdaus Quadri. The diary reveals Firdaus's struggles and experiences, including her painful memories related to her father and her tattoo.

Kabir suffers a fall from his bed, breaking his arm in the process. With no immediate help available due to the remote location and lack of communication, he is left in pain for an entire day.

Despite the challenges, students begin arriving at the school to learn under the new teacher. Kabir meets several children, getting to know their individual personalities and backgrounds, solidifying his commitment to teaching.

Kabir faces rebellion from his students when they disobey his rules and go fishing during class hours. This incident leads Kabir to doubt his capabilities as a teacher and question his decision to take on the role.

The students experience a traumatic event when they discover a dead body floating under the school's toilet. This shocking episode further solidifies Firdaus's determination to stay and care for the children.

Kabir makes a surprise visit to Srinagar to meet his girlfriend Dolly, only to find she has moved on and is seeing someone else. Heartbroken by the revelation, Kabir finds solace in his connection to the students and Firdaus's diary.

A day at school escalates into chaos when a water snake slithers into the classroom. Kabir bravely protects the children, showcasing his growing bond with them and reinforcing his role as their protector.

During a violent storm, Kabir loses Firdaus's diary as it falls into the lake while he attempts to save a student. Determined to retrieve it, Kabir dives into the water, exemplifying his commitment to his students.

Kabir learns about a talented student named Imran, whose father wants him to work instead of attending school. Recognizing Imran's potential, Kabir fights to keep him in the classroom and help him succeed academically.

On the day of her wedding, Firdaus discovers her fiancé Junaid has been unfaithful. Heartbroken, she calls off the wedding and returns to the school, finding solace in her students and the supportive environment they create together.

Kabir confronts Imran's father, Yakub, who threatens him for trying to keep Imran in school. A tense moment unfolds when Imran takes a gun to defend Kabir, but Kabir intervenes, showcasing his protective nature.

As Firdaus adjusts back to her role at Wular, she uncovers Kabir's feelings for her through his written comments in her diary. In the aftermath of trials and tribulations, both characters acknowledge their growing love for one another.
