Never Said Goodbye

Xiao You is an interior designer in Shanghai who grapples with heartbreak and mounting work pressure after Jun-ho leaves. She struggles to move on while clinging to memories of their relationship. Her world gradually widens as she discovers a mysterious, goodwill figure guiding her from the shadows, culminating in the revelation of Jun-ho’s continued presence. She embodies resilience in the face of emotional turmoil.

Jun-ho is a Korean student raised in Italy who comes to Shanghai to study and work as an interior designer. He learns he has brain cancer and chooses to break up with Xiao You to spare her pain. He later fakes his death in Italy and, through the help of his elder sister and Mr. Ma, attempts to stay connected with Xiao You by unseen, ongoing gestures. His arc centers on love, sacrifice, and the desire to never truly let go.

Tian Bo is Xiaoyou’s neighbor in Shanghai who forms a friendship with her after the breakup. He becomes a steady source of support, helping her navigate danger and offering a sense of companionship amid her emotional turmoil. His presence anchors her day-to-day life and provides a doorway to rediscover hope.

Ma Shuai, also known as Lao Ma, is Jun-ho’s elder sister’s employer who assists in the behind-the-scenes efforts to keep Jun-ho’s promise alive. He plays a pivotal role in enabling Jun-ho’s discreet acts of care, including the more covert aspects of his plan to never let Xiaoyou go. He represents an older, practical force aiding a deeply emotional mission.
