Never Going Back

Angela and Jessie are best friends who are high school dropouts and work as waitresses at a dull diner in South Texas. They dream of something more and yearn for a chance to change their lives.

Angela decides to surprise Jessie with a trip to Galveston for Jessie's 17th birthday. She uses their rent money to pay for it and agrees to work extra hours at the diner to make up the funds. The plan is bold and risky, aiming to spark a new start.

Dustin, Jessie's goofy older brother and roommate, blows his portion of the rent on a failed drug sale. The money intended for rent disappears, escalating their financial stress. This sets off a chain of risky decisions.

The next morning, Tony breaks into the house and steals an old TV, thinking Dustin hid the drug money. The intrusion heightens the tension between the roommates.

Police arrive to check the scene and discover Angela's and Jessie's stash of weed and cocaine. The discovery leads to the girls' arrest. They are taken into custody.

The girls spend two days in juvenile detention before being released. They learn that Roderick, their boss, wants to talk to them and face uncertain consequences. Jessie endures constipation during detention, adding to their discomfort.

On the way to the laundry to wash their uniforms, they meet Paul, a former coworker, who tells them Art Dog is throwing a party and they can use his washing machine. The plan gives them a possible route to salvage their situation. They decide to head to Art Dog's house.

At Art Dog's house, the girls try to stay sober, but they accidentally eat cannabis cookies. They return to work high and are fired by Roderick, who still tries to care but has to make a hard call. The day spirals further as their job is lost.

Desperate, Jessie proposes that Brandon steal money from the sandwich shop's cash register and frame a robbery. Brandon initially resists but agrees when the girls promise a reward, a promise they have no intention of keeping. The plan hinges on deceit and risk.

Dustin and his friend Ryan enter the shop to steal the money, but the girls recognize them and admit they can't cover the rent. They discover only $50 is in the register; the rest is in a safe they still don't have the key for. The theft plan quickly falls apart.

Mr. Dickson, Brandon's boss, unexpectedly arrives and Brandon hides Angela and Jessie in a utility closet. Dickson orders Brandon to leave, leaving the two girls trapped inside. The situation exposes the shop's dangerous dynamics.

Inside the closet, Dickson reveals his predatory attitude toward the girls. Jessie experiences cramps from constipation and defecates in a bucket. Angela vomits on Dickson as he loses consciousness, ending the immediate danger.

The girls raid Dickson's phone to learn he's involved in inappropriate behavior, then use a key to open the safe and take the money. They leave a note promising to tell his wife if he reports them. The getaway is tense but decisive.

Back at their home, the girls decide to leave enough money to cover the rent and take the rest to California to start a new life. They feel a sense of relief at having a chance for a fresh start. They fall asleep together, hopeful for the future.

Later, Angela and Jessie are seen enjoying the beach, symbolizing a new beginning. They feel free and hopeful about the uncertain future ahead. The film closes on the two friends facing what comes next with renewed optimism.
