Gurbet farms with her father Hüseyin Çavuş while she and Halil hope to build a home. Halil works in the city, but landowner Çılgan Ağa, who has trapped villagers in debt, also covets Gurbet. After giving Hüseyin impossible loans and his death, Gurbet is forced into a marriage auction. Çılgan wins, promising to erase the villagers’ debts, and she concedes.
