Six‑year‑old Mike moves in with his pregnant sister Babs, a string‑bass player in José Iturbi’s orchestra. The wartime draft empties the male sections, turning the ensemble almost entirely female. While touring the country, the musicians conceal Babs’ War Office telegram to protect her unborn child. Warm romance and steadfast faith guide the family through uncertainty.
