Muddy River

The events take place in 1956 Osaka, a period still recovering from World War II. The setting uses intimate spaces—a diner by the river and a moving houseboat—to show how everyday life is shaped by rumors, guilt, and resilience. It portrays a postwar urban milieu where family ties and social margins are tested.

Set beside the Yodo River in Osaka, the story unfolds around a small diner near the river mouth and a houseboat moored across from it. A trip to Kyoto later in the story reveals parts of Shinpei's past and the reach of his family.
