Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island

On the Canary Island of Alegranza, Captain Bright Noa receives orders from Admiral Gopp to eliminate the remaining Zeon operatives and to clear a safe passage for a fleet heading to Gibraltar. The White Base is tasked with ensuring this route remains open, and three pilots are sent into the danger: Amuro Ray, Kai Shiden, and Hayato Kobayashi. The mission quickly reveals the harsh realities of war. During the operation, [Kai Shiden] is pelted by rocks while piloting his Guncannon, and Amuro comes under attack from a lone Zaku, sending him tumbling off a cliff and severing contact with the White Base.

The following morning, Amuro awakens in a lighthouse and encounters Cucuruz Doan, a former Zeon ace who defected to protect a group of orphaned children. With Doan’s help, he tends to the tasks of daily life aboard the island and quietly searches for the missing Gundam. The sight of Doan’s kindness stands in stark contrast to the violence of the war outside, shaping Amuro’s understanding of what it means to fight and protect.

Meanwhile, Zeon commander M’Quve presses the Federation with threats of nuclear retaliation unless its advance toward Gibraltar halts. Doan’s former comrades converge on Alegranza, intent on restarting missile launch systems that could tip the balance of power. The White Base’s generals, ordered by General Revil, chart a course to Belfast to resupply, yet Captain Bright delays departure, choosing to prioritize Amuro’s safety and the chance to reunite the squad with their pilot.

Sleggar Law leads a rescue team to the island and clashes with Doan’s Southern Cross unit, igniting a tense skirmish that tests loyalties on both sides. In the midst of the conflict, Amuro discovers his missing Gundam hidden beneath a Zeon base on the island and learns that Doan had sabotaged the missile launch to protect the children’s lives. The revelation adds a complex layer to the moral questions surrounding war: is saving lives sometimes worth sacrificing strategic aims?

The Zeon operatives press the launch sequence, but the six warheads self-destruct in mid-air, sparing Alegranza from a devastating strike. In the final confrontation, Amuro faces a former comrade of Doan in a hard-fought duel, and with grit and skill, defeats him. In a symbolic act of mercy and release, Amuro uses the Gundam to carry Doan’s Zaku away from the cliff and push it into the void, a powerful gesture that suggests liberation from the burdens of war, even for those who once fought on the opposite side.

As dawn breaks, the White Base resumes its voyage to Belfast, passing over Alegranza while the island’s children wave farewell. The mission closes with a quiet sense of resolution: though the conflict continues elsewhere, a bond has formed between those who fight and those who endure, and a young pilot’s journey toward understanding the true cost of war continues to unfold.
