The film offers no conventional narrative; instead, it paints a vivid portrait of ordinary Spaniards navigating the harsh post‑civil‑war years of the 1940s. Through a series of vignettes, it reveals how they struggle to survive in a country still scarred by conflict, echoing the ensemble style of works such as La colmena and Fellini’s Roma.
