Merantau

Yuda, a talented Minangkabau silat expert, leaves his hometown to seek opportunities in Jakarta, following the traditional merantau journey. He plans to teach silat and make a new life in the city, motivated by the desire for growth and adventure. On the bus, he meets Eric, another silat practitioner who warns him about the dangers of city life.

Yuda and Eric attend an audition for bodyguards, where Eric impressively defeats his opponent and secures a job. Eric invites Yuda to join him, but Yuda declines, feeling uncomfortable with the aggressive environment. This marks the start of Yuda's exploration of the urban atmosphere and its difficulties.

Yuda's apartment is torn down unexpectedly, leaving him homeless and without a place to stay in the city. This forces him to adapt quickly to his new reality as he seeks shelter and continues his pursuit of a new life.

Yuda's wallet is stolen by a kid named Adit, prompting him to chase after him. During this pursuit, Yuda observes Astri arguing with her abusive boss Johnny, and he intervenes when Johnny begins to hit her, causing her to lose her job. This incident introduces the personal struggles Yuda becomes involved in.

Yuda intervenes again when Johnny’s thugs beat Astri, fighting off multiple attackers and helping her and Adit escape. He sustains a brutal injury, scarred during the fight, which draws Ratger's anger and a sworn vow of revenge. This establishes the beginning of Yuda's conflict with Johnny's gang.

Yuda takes Adit and Astri to his construction site shelter and learns about their troubled past, including Astri's role as their caretaker after their parents abandoned them. This deepens Yuda’s emotional connection to their plight and motivates his subsequent actions.

Yuda successfully retrieves Astri’s savings from her home but is ambushed by Ratger’s men. He fights and defeats all of them during the confrontation, demonstrating his formidable silat skills. Meanwhile, Astri is chased and kidnapped, escalating the urgency of his mission.

Yuda locates Ratger and Astri at an apartment, fighting his way through guards to reach them. After a brutal elevator fight with Eric, Yuda confronts Ratger at the shipping dock. He fights Ratger and his associate Luc, resulting in a deadly clash where Luc is impaled and Ratger is subdued.

Ratger assaults Astri at the parking garage and leaves her in a storage container. Yuda fights his way through Ratger’s thugs to rescue her, but during the final confrontation, Ratger stabs Yuda in the stomach. Yuda manages to kill Ratger before collapsing from his injury.

Yuda, severely wounded, shares his final wishes with Astri after defeating Ratger. His sacrifice ensures her safety and the rescue of the other women held in the container. His death signifies the culmination of his journey and heroism.

Astri reunites with Adit and they return to Yuda’s hometown, where they live with his family. The story concludes with a poignant scene of Yuda’s mother watching Adit go to school, her perspective shifting to see Adit as her own son, symbolizing hope and new beginnings.
