This film examines the career of Joseph McCarthy, a Wisconsin senator whose unexpected election victory launched him to national prominence. Once in office, he ignited a fervent campaign alleging a widespread internal conspiracy threatening the United States. Unbound by oversight, McCarthy and his ally, lawyer Roy Cohn, targeted individuals with baseless accusations and intimidation tactics, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. His excesses ultimately led to his downfall, but his name remains synonymous with reckless political accusations and public paranoia.
