A three‑part musical ballad where songs replace dialogue, expressing director Nemec’s vision of a film world detached from reality. It champions timid, inhibited, clumsy and unsuccessful characters, sharply contrasting with the industrious socialist heroes. The film cemented Nemec’s reputation as an unrestrained nonconformist regarded as dangerous by the Communist establishment.
