An angry mother turns her daughter into a maple tree. Three poor wandering musicians find the trunk and craft instruments from it. Wherever they play, the cursed instruments bring death, and only by burying them at the tree’s original spot can the curse end. The three are far from harmonious, each taking opposite stances in their endless disputes.
