A troubled child named Malou is sent to live with foster parents Bibi and Leif on a remote island. Resenting her new circumstances, she longs to escape. A local gnome, Nils, fiercely resistant to change, also dislikes Malou, and the two conspire to have her leave. However, Malou discovers a sense of purpose helping Leif harvest Christmas trees. When Nils sabotages the island's annual Christmas market and frames Malou, she must prove her worth and save Christmas.
