Malone

Richard Malone resigns from his covert CIA role and begins driving aimlessly. His Ford Mustang breaks down in a rural Oregon valley, forcing him to seek help. Paul Barlow, who runs the local gas station, offers Malone a spare room while his car is repaired.

Malone and Paul grow friendly as they discuss their Vietnam War experiences. Malone agrees to stay in the spare room while the car is being repaired. Jo's presence hints at a normal life in a town increasingly controlled by Delaney.

Jo snoops through Malone's belongings and finds a handgun. Malone helps with repairs and quietly sizes up the town, noting Delaney's scheme to buy up properties and turn them into havens for his extremist network. The uneasy atmosphere foreshadows the coming conflict.

A group of Delaney's thugs harasses Malone and Jo on a bridge. Malone defends himself and brutally beats the ringleader, Dan Bollard. Dan's brother Calvin is goaded by Madrid into taking action against Malone.

Calvin tries to shoot Malone at the local barber shop, but Malone shoots and kills Calvin in self-defense. The town grows more volatile as violence intensifies.

Sheriff Hawkins detains Malone at the jail; Delaney visits and orders Madrid to arrange a hit on Malone. The power broker leverages law enforcement to advance his plan.

Two hitmen arrive at the service station, but Malone defends himself with a shotgun concealed in his room, killing both attackers. He sustains serious injuries in the shootout, and Hawkins orders a deputy to drive him toward the hospital, though danger follows.

Malone reaches the hospital, where his CIA handler Jamie arrives with orders to assassinate him by poisoning. They retreat to a safe house, where they rekindle their romance and prepare for the next move.

Madrid’s thugs attack the safe house and capture Jamie. She refuses to reveal Malone’s location under torture and is murdered by suffocation with a plastic bag. Malone returns to find her body and a shattered sense of purpose.

Angry and grief-stricken, Malone infiltrates Delaney's sprawling compound and kills Madrid along with other henchmen in his bid to avenge Jamie. The confrontation escalates toward a final showdown.

Delaney retreats to his secret command center and reveals that a vast network of like-minded 'patriots' is buying up land and electing Congressmen to retake the country from those he deems 'mongrels'. Malone confronts the scope of the conspiracy and braces for the endgame.

Malone kills Delaney and blows up the compound in a decisive act of vengeance. He walks away from the destruction, burning his Virginia driver's license as a symbol of severing his old identity from the violence he rejected.
