Anikuttan, the irritable electrician whose mind is haunted by his sister’s elopement and his father’s suicide, finds his world literally shattered when a sudden landslide crushes his home. Trapped under the rubble, he awakens to the groans of twisted timber and the distant, unmistakable cries of a newborn. At first he assumes the wailing is another hallucination—one of many visions of his dead father that the disaster conjures—but the sound guides him through the debris.

As he claws his way deeper, the wreckage reveals that his neighbors have perished, and the baby, Ponni, is still alive, pinned beneath a fallen beam. The infant’s sobs become both a beacon and a stark reminder of the very thing Anikuttan had despised since the film began. With frantic effort he lifts the timbers enough for the rescue team, who arrive just as he manages to free the child. Both are pulled to safety, and Anikuttan is rushed to a hospital in a state of shock and injury.

At the hospital he learns that his mother, Shantamma, was found early in the rescue operation, her body already taken from the site. Overcome with guilt—he had once barred her from seeing his sister and now cannot even look at her one last time—Anikuttan refuses to approach her corpse. The final scenes find him in the children’s ward, watching Ponni sleep, the title’s meaning—rebirth—echoing in the quiet. The catastrophe forces Anikuttan to confront the walls he built around his heart; the baby’s cry, once a source of irritation, becomes the catalyst for his transformation, suggesting that his future will now revolve around protecting the child he once resented.
