Kenneth Anger, cinematic magician, provocateur and author of Hollywood Babylon, was a singular figure in post‑war American culture. His avant‑garde shorts employ a mystical‑symbolic visual language and sensual opulence, pushing film’s transgressive limits. Works such as Fireworks (1947), Puce Moment (1949), Rabbit’s Moon (1950/71), Eaux d’Artifice (1953), Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954), Scorpio Rising (1964), Kustom Kar Kommandos (1965), Invocation of My Demon Brother (1969) and Lucifer Rising (1981) shaped 60s‑70s subculture aesthetics, pop‑music video imagery and queer iconography.
