Drawing on rare footage from 1905‑1915, the film assembles silent‑movie clips and documentaries from the Jean Desmet Archive of the Netherlands Film Museum. Desmet, an early Dutch film distributor, is honored as the piece celebrates early filmmakers’ skill while exposing nitrate’s fragility. It unfolds as an opera on love and death, underscored by the music of Bizet, Masek and Puccini.
