Locked In

Katherine wakes up in a hospital, paralyzed and unable to communicate due to locked-in syndrome. Nicky, a nurse, begins a program to help her regain some form of communication by blinking and spelling out letters.

Nicky travels to learn about Katherine's history from Lina, the wife of Katherine's deceased stepson Jamie. This interview hints at hidden tensions surrounding inheritance and loyalties that will drive the story.

A flashback explains that Katherine's husband was very wealthy and left everything to Jamie after his death. This arrangement sets up resentment in Katherine toward Lina's later control of the estate.

Lina steps into Jamie's life as his caregiver and they grow close, eventually marrying in adulthood. Katherine's resentment deepens as Lina gains ownership of the family estate.

Dr. Robert Lawrence enters Lina's life as her lover and ally, but his real motive is to secure the estate through them. He begins to manipulate the family dynamics for personal gain.

Robert prescribes Jamie painkillers which cause his health to deteriorate. The dependency gives Robert leverage and fuels the plan to take control of the mansion.

Robert persuades Jamie to join a boat ride with Lina, under a guise of companionship. On the water, Robert capsizes the boat and drowns Jamie, while Lina tries in vain to save him.

Jamie's funeral follows, and Robert pressures Lina to sell the mansion so they can live elsewhere. Lina resists, clinging to a promise to Katherine and recognizing Robert's true intentions.

Robert reveals that he has Lina's journal, which contains fantasies about killing Jamie, implying she could be blamed for the death. This revelation escalates the danger surrounding Lina.

Lina returns home to discover Katherine and Robert having an affair. She decides to leave, but is chased out of the house by both of them, heightening the sense of peril.

In a flashback to the night of the accident, Katherine shoots Robert's tire to stop him from running Lina down. She later pleads with him to spare Lina, but Robert's violence continues and leads toward the fatal crash.

After the crash, Lina confronts Robert and uses a lethal drug he had prepared for Katherine, though the dose is not enough to kill him. Robert attacks Lina and makes a second attempt to kill Katherine with an injection, but Lina stabs Robert to death.

The police arrive at the mansion and remove Robert's body as Lina, Katherine, and Nicky watch in stunned silence. The trio's fragile alliance remains, with Nicky choosing silence about what she witnessed.

In the aftermath, Lina and Katherine reaffirm their bond and hold hands as they face an uncertain future together. Nicky remains nearby, offering quiet support as the truth of the night's events settles over the mansion.
