Chandru, Vivek, has spent all his money on a lavish lifestyle and now survives by mooching off his friend, Shaam Rakesh, who has tasted success in his business and commands a vast estate tucked away in a valley. Chandru is a playful, quick-witted man who has fabricated stories of his “own” wealth to win the admiration of his parents, grandparents, and extended family, turning every family gathering into a theatre of his own making.

During a vacation, Colonel Rajasekar, Radha Ravi, and Chandru’s grandmother Sathyapriya arrive with their extended clan to spend a few days at the sprawling farmhouse. Chandru seizes the moment and convinces them that he is the true owner of the estate and that Rakesh is merely his dependable partner. Rakesh, an orphan who has found a home in this family tension, welcomes the arrival with warmth, enjoying the chance to meet a big, affectionate clan. The Colonel, seeing opportunity in abundance, begins to mull over a plan to marry Chandru to one of his granddaughters, while Chandru himself is torn between a few possibilities and the attention of several suitors.

Into this mix arrives Bala, the other granddaughter of Rajasekar, who makes a dramatic entry full of mood swings—upset at first, she quickly settles into the rhythm of the vacation. She brings a fresh, somewhat teasing energy and soon becomes a focal point for the men, especially Chandru and Rakesh, as they try to decipher the cryptic messages she appears to send them. Bala’s presence adds a layer of tension and curiosity to the estate, and Rakesh finds himself increasingly drawn into her orbit. Bala, Trisha Krishnan, seems to be enjoying the moment, even as everyone around them wonders what she truly wants.

As days pass, Chandru and Rakesh band together to uncover the identity of the girl who has been showering them with gifts and ambiguous notes. The playful deception that started as harmless fun starts to reveal as a more serious situation: Rakesh, despite his initial bravado, begins to feel the pull of genuine affection for Bala. The two men find themselves at a crossroads—one rooted in the fantasy of their own making, the other stepping into real feelings that could alter everything they’ve built around the estate’s façade.

Yet the peace is short-lived. A confrontation with Pandi laid bare the truth: Chandru has been living a lie, and the estate actually belongs to Rakesh, who has become the rightful owner in the eyes of those who matter. The revelation sends ripples through the family, and the Colonel’s plan to secure a marriage between Chandru and Bala is quickly reoriented toward preserving Bala’s happiness. Bala makes a startling confession, declaring that she is in love with Rakesh and, more crucially, that she is not sure she can marry anyone else—except for Deva Narayanan, a college lecturer who is facing a hanging sentence on a controversial public issue. Deva, R. Madhavan, becomes the pivot of Bala’s insistence on a different future.

The emotional center of the story becomes Bala’s vow—she refuses to marry out of fear or obligation, insisting that love and truth matter more than the arrangements made by others. The tension intensifies as the wedding plans loom. On the night before the ceremony, Bala asks to visit Deva in jail for one last conversation. Deva’s response is a blunt, bitter rejection—he claims to hate Bala and asks her to walk away from what she thinks she wants. Her resolve hardens, and she tells the Colonel that she won’t enter into a marriage she doesn’t believe in, a decision that splinters the family’s expectations and disappoints those who hoped to see her settled.

In the end, the family gathers at the railway station to conclude their holiday, signaling that the vacation has reached its final stop. Bala confesses to Rakesh that she loves him, and a sense of hopeful ambiguity hangs in the air as the train begins to depart. A hand rises from a passing coach, clutching the small gift—a puppy—that had once been sent to Chandru, as if to tease him with the possibility of a secret admirer. Chandru dashes to catch a last glimpse of the mystery woman, but all he finds is a cryptic message that promises to reveal her identity if he continues the search.

Throughout, the film balances humor with sincerity, painting a picture of a tight-knit family navigating pride, affection, and the complicated pull of love.
