Lake Placid: Legacy

A group of activists travels to a remote island in the middle of a lake, following Dane's video challenge. They are joined by rangers Pennie and Travis and prepare to investigate the old research site. Their arrival marks the beginning of a dangerous investigation into the mystery Dane left behind.

The group makes a grim discovery: Gomez's body is hanging in a tree, a sign that something dangerous has already happened. The sight heightens the eerie mood and raises questions about what they will face. They also spot Dane's camera and start to piece together the backstory.

Dane's camera hints at a man named Henderson who supposedly abandoned him before being attacked by something. The footage implies a connection between Henderson and the danger on the island. The survivors realize the threat may be more intelligent and dangerous than expected.

The group tries to leave by boat, but the vessel drifts away with Travis on board. Pennie is dragged into the water by a rope, and when Travis tries to save her he is killed. Sam rescues Pennie, but the group is suddenly stranded, cut off from any easy escape.

Seeking shelter and help, the survivors locate and enter the desolate facility. Inside, they are confronted by a literal monster—a massive 30-foot crocodile that stalks them through the halls. The discovery confirms the threat Dane hinted at and sets the stage for a desperate fight for survival.

Billy, Spencer, and Pennie peel off from Jade, Sam, Alice, and Dane to explore on their own. The decision creates a new dynamic, with the film's danger now shared across multiple fronts. Tension rises as they proceed through the facility.

The crocodile strikes, pulling Spencer into the water and killing him. Pennie makes a last-ditch effort to distract the beast, drawing it away from the others. The creature follows her into a tunnel and finishes her off, leaving the group more exposed.

Jade, Sam, and Alice stumble upon Dane alive and guide him to the others. Dane reveals Henderson, the facility's former employee, and explains how the project to weaponize crocodiles began and why it was shut down. He describes how stolen juvenile samples and a renewed interest brought him and Gomez back to the facility.

Henderson explains the plan to resume the crocodile experiments under the cover of chaos. He confirms that he retrieved the stolen juvenile samples and that he used Dane and Gomez to re-enter the facility. The revelation confirms a human-driven threat behind the creature's presence.

Billy reaches another building hoping to contact the police, but the network proves useless. The crocodile breaks in during this moment, killing him before help can arrive. The loss deepens the group's peril and isolates them further.

As chaos erupts, Henderson escapes the confusion and Jade, Sam, Alice, and Dane push forward to escape. They flood portions of the facility to seal off the monster's pursuit, forcing them to swim to a different section. The plan buys them time but pushes them deeper into danger.

The pursuing crocodile catches up to the group and fatally eats Dane, shattering their fragile hope of rescue. The death underscores the urgency of their escape and the deadly stakes in front of them. The survivors press on, wary that Henderson still lurks somewhere nearby.

Henderson makes one last attempt to trap the group by controlling the flooding and cornering them. The crocodile turns on him and kills him, ending his manipulations. The survivors realize the danger remains rooted in human greed as well as beastly predation.

Sam uncovers a room full of gas cans and devises a plan to kill the crocodile with fuel and a flare. He stays behind to ignite the gas while Jade and Alice are told to escape. The flare shorts, leaving Sam to be eaten, and the plan collapses, heightening the group's peril.

Jade and Alice manage to trap the crocodile using an excavator, igniting fuel to finish the creature. They begin swimming back toward the mainland, only to sense a second crocodile lurking in the water beneath them. The ending leaves their fate uncertain as they push toward safety.
