Lady in a Cage

During a power outage, Cornelia becomes trapped between floors inside her mansion's cage-like elevator. She relies on the emergency alarm to summon help, but no one answers. This isolation sets off the escalating tension inside the house.

Cornelia's alarm draws the alcoholic derelict George Brady to the mansion, where he steals some small items. He is the first intruder to notice the vulnerable widow and begins exploiting the situation. His presence signals the beginning of the wider burglary that follows.

George sells the stolen goods to a fence, Mr. Paul, and boasts to his hustler friend Sade about a hidden treasure. Sade becomes curious and starts following the thread of the loot. Their conversations spread the word that the house holds valuable spoils.

Randall O'Connell, Elaine and Essie follow George and Sade to Cornelia's mansion, drawn by reports of valuable loot. The intruders survey the house, taunt Cornelia, and mock her plea for help. They ransack the home, help themselves to liquor, and begin to revel in the chaos.

In the chaos, the trio murder George and lock Sade in a closet. Cornelia pleads for mercy, offering them freedom in exchange for leaving her alive. They ignore her pleas and continue looting the house.

Randall taunts Cornelia by insinuating her son Malcolm might be gay, showing her a letter Malcolm left that morning threatening suicide due to her domineering behavior. The revelation shatters Cornelia and fills her with horror. This moment marks the emotional turning point in her captivity.

Shocked by the letter, Cornelia collapses into unconsciousness. Her faint underscores the psychological pressure of the situation and the crumbling hold she has over her son. The thieves continue surrounding her absence.

Paul and his associates reach the scene to steal the goods from the hoodlums' car. Their arrival escalates the tension as outside help begins to surface for the thieves. Cornelia's peril remains the central focus as the plan to leave accelerates.
