The scene opens on a lively Mardi Gras parade that resembles a typical carnival, complete with music and revelers. Bluto, the hulking strongman, proclaims himself King of Mardi Gras and commands a huge crowd. Nearby, Popeye mutters his trademark line, “I yam what I yam,” draws no audience, yet his presence provokes Bluto’s anger, setting up a humorous confrontation.
