In 1981, Germany held its breath as eleven-year-old Johannes Erlemann was abducted while riding his bicycle. The son of an entrepreneur facing fraud charges, Johannes was taken by kidnappers who intended to extort a large ransom from his parents. He endured two harrowing weeks imprisoned in a shed deep within a forest, chained to a wall and deprived of daylight, while his captors negotiated with his family. The nation watched as authorities raced against time to find the boy and bring his captors to justice.
