What Happens at the End of Kakuda?

How Kakuda (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

In the climax, Victor Jacobs finally uncovers the tragic truth behind the venge‑vicious spirit known as Kakuda. He learns that the ghost was once a circus performer named Gullak, whose miraculous foot could heal sprains. Gullak’s rising fame threatened the livelihood of the local strongman Guggu Pehalwan, who spread a false rumor that Gullak was having an affair with a widowed woman, Ganga. The mob brutally attacked Gullak, burned his home and left him to die beneath a scarecrow, his pleas for help ignored as every villager kept their doors shut. His death, combined with the murder of Ganga and her son Shibu, bound his restless soul to the village, where he began killing those who had turned away from him.

Armed with this knowledge, Victor persuades Indu, Sunny, and the mute twin Gomati to confront the haunted scarecrow. Gomati, who shares a mysterious link with the ghost, becomes possessed, allowing the group to witness Gullak’s story and the exact moment of his betrayal. Victor then severs the cursed foot that fuels Kakuda’s power, freeing the spirit from its earthly tether. As the malevolent energy fades, Sunny’s supernatural hump— the mark of the village’s failing ritual—disappears, restoring his health and ending the 13‑day doom that had loomed over him.

With the haunt finally laid to rest, normal life returns to Ratodi. Victor is hailed as the village’s saviour, and in the process he finds an unexpected companionship with Gomati, who finally escapes the stigma that had isolated her. The film closes on a note of redemption: the wronged spirit finds peace, the cursed villagers are healed, and a new, hopeful bond forms between those who once lived in fear.
