Viswanathan is an arrogant, money-minded estate owner who rules Chinnamalai Estate near Pollachi. He plans to marry off his daughters to wealthy men and resents his son Chellappa's dream of filmmaking. The family dynamics set the stage for the unfolding drama.

Kanchana and Nirmala return home after completing their education in Madras. Kanchana has fallen for her college mate Vasu, and the sisters' perspectives clash with their father's plans. The dynamics hint at coming conflicts.

Ashok, the estate's assistant manager, collides with the sisters' car, sparking a quarrel. The sisters insist Viswanathan fire him, escalating tensions at the estate. This incident triggers Ashok's personal vendetta and the start of the impersonation plot.

Ashok camps outside the bungalow and launches a strike to reclaim his job. Nirmala accidentally drops a bucket on his head, feels guilty, and visits his tent to apologize, where they unexpectedly fall in love. The romance complicates the social and economic tensions at play.

Ashok realises that his poverty bars him from becoming a suitable match. He enlists his friend Vasu to pose as a wealthy father to secure a match. Vasu arrives at Chinnamalai in disguise as the rich, old man Chidambaram.

Kanchana's first meeting with Chidambaram in disguise shocks her, and she suspects Ashok's love for Kanchana is genuine. They soon learn that Ashok's romantic interest is actually Nirmala. The plan aims to mask true relationships while keeping the daughters' trust.

Chellappa starts a film company called Oho Productions to realize his dream. He struggles to win faith in his abilities and instead finances the project himself, recruiting Meenalochni as the heroine and selecting Ashok for the screenplay. He appeals to Chidambaram (Vasu in disguise) to fund the film.

With the film stalled, Meenalochni's father pressures Chellappa to marry her. Chellappa initially resists but finally accepts, feeling he has no other option. The consequence tightens the web of deception surrounding the family.

Chidambaram reveals his true identity as Vasu to Viswanathan's daughters, who agree to go along with the ruse. Viswanathan believes Ashok is the sole heir and seeks Kanchana's consent to the engagement. Kanchana rejects the arrangement, while Nirmala accepts to honor her lover.

Vasu's father Sachidanandam arrives to oversee the nearby estate deal and finds himself in the same circle as Viswanathan. The two men discover they are childhood friends, deepening the personal stakes of the scheme.

Viswanathan arranges Kanchana's marriage to Vasu, while Vasu struggles to reveal his true identity. He fears exposure could derail the plan, so the charade continues through the preparations.

Sachidanandam travels back to Madras to finalize wedding arrangements and nearly cancels upon not hearing from his son. A late phone call from Vasu reassures him and allows the engagement to proceed.

During a search, Sachidanandam visits a school teacher's hut and discovers a photograph of Ashok, realizing he is the teacher's son. He suspects foul play in the imposture and reports it to the authorities.

Vasu and Ashok are taken into custody as the truth behind the impersonation comes to light. When Sachidanandam arrives at the police station, the deception is exposed and he withdraws his complaint.

Facing the lovers' steadfast affection, Viswanathan finally accepts their choices and agrees to let the couples marry. The estate's plans yield to the daughters' happiness and the families' bond is restored.
