A Soviet animated classic that feels unusual to Western eyes. Malysh, the youngest of three Swedish children, longs for a dog to ease his loneliness. He imagines a friend—Karlson, who lives on the roof. The tale, based on Astrid Lindgren’s book, blends Russian folklore’s playful mischief with the idea that material comfort doesn’t guarantee happiness.
