The quiet routine of home life collides with the bustle of Molly’s lacrosse dinner for teammates, and a moth flits past, drawing Cleo’s attention away from her experiment. A clumsy spill of unknown chemicals into Cleo’s solution creates steam that makes the moth momentarily invisible, and Cleo spends the rest of the night chasing a ghostly insect through a crowded house.

The drama escalates when the moth reappears, drawn to a light in the bathroom. It meets a fiery end when it is killed by the light and falls into a cup of water containing an antacid Molly is about to drink. Unknowingly, Molly swallows the moth, which renders her invisible. The next morning dawns with Molly unable to be seen, and Cleo reveals what happened. The sisters race between science and social life: they head to a cemetery to collect another moth while George goes ahead to set up at school. The plan falters briefly when Molly has already consumed some antacid earlier, but Cleo quickly adjusts by adding a dose of that same ingredient to the antidote. The result is dramatic: Molly’s invisibility breaks, and she becomes visible again just as the clock nears midnight.

The success is not just practical; it earns Cleo a chance to present her findings at a professional seminar. Mr. Perkins invites her to share her discovery with the New Orleans Association of Applied Scientists, signaling a professional validation of Cleo’s scientific mind.
