Tiska Jones Dorothy Appleby, Taska Jones Mary Ainslee, and Baska Jones Ethelreda Leopold are three assertive members of society who stand to inherit a substantial fortune, but only if they marry by a strict deadline. Their would-be fiancés are away with the Fleet in Honolulu, unable to comply. Under the advisement of their sharp-witted lawyer Diggins, they hatch a plan to secure the inheritance by marrying three condemned inmates from the Mushroom Murder Gang, embodied by the Stooges: Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard. By marrying the convicts, the sisters would collect the inheritance, and the inmates would be executed, clearing the way for the ladies to pursue their original engagements.

A last-minute reprieve arrives and clears the trio of guilt in the Mushroom murders, granting them freedom. The sisters, now widows, find themselves sharing their homes with their new husbands—the Stooges—who move into the Jones household and upend the orderly routines of the household, much to the sisters’ chagrin.

With the Stooges in tow, the sisters strive to elevate their husbands into polished high society, certain that Moe, Larry, and Curly are ill-suited for refinement. Yet the trio is determined to prove themselves capable of etiquette and decorum. The attempt to stage a flawless social gathering spirals into chaos, and Diggins’s scheme to discredit Moe backfires in a comic reversal.

Despite the upheaval, the Jones sisters refuse to bow to annulment and stand by their marriages. The guests, along with the Stooges, turn the tables on Diggins with a pie-filled retribution, uniting the household in a satisfying, if messy, finale.

How were the Stooges freed from execution?

A.

A last-minute reprieve arrived at the prison that absolved the Stooges of guilt in the Mushroom murders. The execution was halted, and they walked free alongside their new wives. Q3

Why did the Jones sisters keep their marriages after the Stooges were released?

A.

When Diggins threatened to annul the marriages to reclaim control over the inheritance, the sisters chose to defend their unconventional matches. They sided with their husbands against Diggins, deciding that loyalty to their unexpected marriages outweighed the original financial scheme. The sisters embraced their new domestic reality rather than abandon the Stooges.

Q4

What was Diggins's plan to discredit Moe at the party?

A.

Diggins orchestrated the social gathering hoping that Moe's crude behavior would ruin his reputation and give Diggins legal grounds to annul the marriages. However, the plan backfired, the Stooges' antics turned the event chaotic in a way that made Diggins look foolish rather than Moe. This comic reversal exposed Diggins's manipulative intentions to the other guests.

Q5

Why did the Jones sisters try to turn convicts into gentlemen?

A.

After the unexpected reprieve left them with real husbands, the sisters decided to make the best of their situation by elevating the Stooges into polished high-society gentlemen. They attempted to teach them etiquette and decorum, believing refinement would help them fit into respectable society. The Stooges eagerly tried to meet their wives' expectations, leading to comedic attempts at proper behavior.

Earlier dialogue establishes that the sisters believed Moe, Larry, and Curly were completely unsuited for refined society.

Q6

What triggered the pie-filled retribution at the end?

A.

The pie fight was the household's response to Diggins's attempts to manipulate and control the sisters' inheritance. After Diggins tried to annul the marriages and discredit Moe at the social gathering, the guests and Stooges teamed up to overwhelm him with pies. This chaotic retaliation served as both comic payback and a public statement that Diggins could not easily overturn the sisters' decisions.

Q7

Why did the Jones sisters choose the Stooges over their lawyer Diggins?

A.

The sisters recognized that Diggins had been manipulating them throughout the entire scheme for his own benefit. When he threatened to annul their marriages to reclaim control of the inheritance, the sisters realized his interests were self-serving. Choosing the Stooges meant choosing partners who, despite their criminal past and comedic incompetence, were genuinely on their side.

Q8

Were the Stooges actually innocent of the Mushroom murders?

A.

Yes. The last-minute reprieve revealed that the Stooges were wrongly convicted of the Mushroom murders. They were completely innocent of the crimes they were condemned for, which explains why they were freed when the truth came to light. This reversal is what transformed the sisters' scheme from one involving impending widowhood into actual marriages.

Q9

What happened to the Jones sisters' inheritance after the marriages?

A.

The marriages successfully fulfilled the inheritance condition that required the sisters to wed before the deadline. Because they went through with the marriages to the Stooges, even under the original scheme's terms, the inheritance was secured. The film ends with the inheritance secured and the sisters navigating a new, unconventional household dynamic with their unexpected husbands.
