Thirty years after the Union–Consortium war, Earth remains scarred by the fighting. The Newton 5 space colony is suddenly destroyed by a vast extraterrestrial spacecraft, killing about 200,000 people. This devastating attack signals a new, galaxy-spanning crisis that humanity must face.

Base commander Noah Trager, aided by recently graduated space cadets, escapes the disaster and flees toward the nearby Magellan research vessel. They reach safety on the Magellan as the pursuing aliens press closer. Earth leadership remains focused on the mission’s secrecy while the refugees seek a new path.

Professor Karteez Rumla insists that the Magellan continue its original classified mission rather than return to Earth. Senator Jeremy Uvan supports the decision, urging perseverance. The refugees agree to steer toward sector 9, the mission's intended destination.

While being pursued, the Magellan is suddenly ejected into hyperspace by an unknown space phenomenon. The crew braces for an unknown journey across interstellar space. They eventually emerge far from Earth, unknowingly heading toward unknown dangers.

The Magellan is drawn to an unidentified ice planet and lands automatically in a crater. The planet has breathable air and Earth-like gravity, but an invisible force field traps the ship and 1,426 refugees on the surface. The crew begins to assess their cramped, stranded situation.

The planet's orbit is highly unusual, resembling that of a spacecraft rather than a planet. With Earth out of reach, returning home becomes impossible. The crew must improvise to survive under the planet's strange constraints.

Rumla reveals that six years earlier a meteor struck Sumatra, carrying an extremely old and heat-resistant crystal called ICE-13. Earth scientists deciphered the crystal and found it contained coordinates and warnings about a distant threat. The discovery led to a secret mission to build the Magellan.

Ground survey teams locate a vast subterranean energy network with a power source about 500 kilometers from the ship. In orbit, two reconnaissance crafts are attacked by the same enormous alien vessel that attacked Newton 5 and Io. A rescue team discovers an artificial cavern that houses the power source.

A Native American-like tribe called the Inaku appears, their origin shrouded in mystery. A glowing tree-like crystalline organism is discovered, and tissue analysis reveals encoded information about Earth civilizations, including extinct languages such as Aramaic and Sumerian.

A hostile life form invades the Magellan and abducts a dozen people. It becomes clear that the ice planet shelters an alien intelligence, now detected by the Zedoni who launched the great ship. The abducted refugees are transported across space and time for an unknown purpose.

The aliens show a vision of Earth burnt to cinders, leaving the timeline ambiguous as to whether it is the present or the future. They hint that the crew must play a part in a larger plan. The crew grapples with the implications of this possible fate.

The human military launches a counterattack as the alien intelligence weakens the defending Zedoni ship’s defenses. The battle intensifies, giving the crew a fragile sense of hope. The outcome remains uncertain as control of the situation hangs in the balance.

The ice planet is transported through a space rift into a different solar system with four moons—the same moons seen in Rumla's vision. The crew faces a new, unknown home while continuing to search for a way back to Earth. The film ends on a note of precarious hope.
