Hunt to Kill

Banks and his crew need to cross through the remote Montana mountains to reach Canada where they can escape with the stolen bearer bonds. Since the terrain is unfamiliar and treacherous, Banks uses Kim as leverage to force Jim, a Border Patrol agent who knows the area, to guide them safely through the backcountry.

Banks kills Sheriff Westlake to eliminate any authority figures who could interfere with his plan and to force Jim's complete cooperation. After overpowering the sheriff, Banks makes it clear that the only way Jim can save his daughter is by guiding Banks's crew to Lawson, and Westlake's death removes any potential help Jim might seek.

Dominika shoots Lawson because she's operating on her own agenda. Lawson was the one who originally stole the bearer bonds from the casino, and by killing him, Dominika removes Banks's leverage and creates chaos. This act effectively eliminates Banks's bargaining chip and throws the group into disarray as they pursue the bonds.

After locating Lawson, Banks pushes Jim off a cliff to eliminate him as a threat and continue the escape with Kim and the stolen bonds. With Jim out of the way, Banks believes he can reach Canada without interference. This also removes the need to keep Jim alive as a guide since they've already passed through the most difficult mountain terrain.

Jim survives the fall because he's an experienced Border Patrol agent trained in survival skills. The rugged mountain terrain, combined with his expertise, allows him to endure the fall. He quickly recovers and uses his survival training to improvise weapons, carve wooden spears, and find a crossbow left in an abandoned bag to track down Banks's crew.

Banks kills Crab because the latter is no longer useful after being severely injured. When Crab attempts to assault Kim, Jim fights back and breaks several of his bones. Banks then shoots Crab to prevent him from slowing down the group's escape and to eliminate the liability he now represents.

Lee gives Jim a watch with a rope band as a practical gift that can be unraveled in an emergency. While the summary doesn't show Jim using it explicitly, the watch serves as a meaningful keepsake from his late partner, symbolizing their partnership and the dangers they faced together in the border patrol.

Jim defeats the villains using survival tactics and improvised weapons. These improvised weapons become his primary tools for hunting down Banks's crew, demonstrating his resourcefulness and ability to turn the environment into an advantage.

Kim stays with Jim throughout the ordeal because she's his daughter and the situation forces them to rely on each other for survival. While she's portrayed as a rebellious teenager initially, the life-threatening circumstances strengthen their bond. In the final stretch, Jim urges her to go for help while he pursues Banks, showing her growing trust in his decisions.

Jim retrieves the bearer bonds after defeating Banks in the factory confrontation. The bonds, which were the motivation for the entire criminal pursuit, are returned to their rightful owners. This resolution completes the story's arc of Jim protecting what was stolen while also saving his daughter.
