Gigliola, a modest young swimmer from Naples, travels to Spain for an important competition. During the event she unexpectedly falls for the fiancé of her best friend. When the couple later visit her in Italy, she, aided by their parents, masquerades as a wealthy woman to hide her true circumstances, leading to a tangled romance and comedic misunderstandings.
